After the trouble, Grimes announced via Instagram that they had changed their son's name to X Æ A-Xii, choosing to use Roman numerals in place of the numbers that couldn't be on the birth certificate.

Lately, the couple has kept fans updated about the status of their son's name with fans through social media.

Grimes and Elon Musk had initially changed their baby boy's name from X Æ A 12 to X Æ A-Xii to comply with the Californian rule which allows only 26 letters of the alphabet along with an apostrophe to be used to name an individual and does not accept numbers, emojis, accents or other symbols in the naming convention. The couple has dubbed their baby "Little X" for short.

Grimes and Elon Musk's legal name for their son has been confirmed in a birth certificate filing. The "new" name - which is really just a legal version of the old one - will be X's legal name.

The Canadian singer explained to followers on Twitter, the "X" stands for "the unknown variable".

Meanwhile, "Æ" (usually pronounced "ash") is the Elven spelling of AI, which is shorthand for artificial intelligence and the word for "love" in several languages, including Japanese.

"A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favourite aircraft)".

She also shared that part of the name is a tribute to the CIA's Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance plane, which has "no weapons, no defenses, just speed".

The "A" in the name also represents "Archangel", which she described as her favourite song. A-12 is my contribution.

TMZ has got a hold of the official birth certificate from the State of California, and it confirms the baby's name from here on out.

The significance behind the name has been explained at length by both Musk and Grimes.

This is Musk's sixth child.

Elon Musk and Grimes attend the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7, 2018 in New York City.
