The Emmy-winning comedy will return for a one-off, hour-long special that doubles as an upfront event for the NBCUniversal family of networks, TVLine has confirmed.

Reunion specials appear to be growing on trees ever since the coronavirus pandemic chose to hold the world in its gnarled grasp, and now we have word that 30 ROCK is returning for a remotely produced Upfront special. Saturday Night Live vet Oz Rodriguez will direct the special episode. The special will also be available on NBC/Universal's new streaming service, The Peacock, on July 17, which is two days after the service is set to premiere. "To quote Kenneth the Page, there are only two things we love in this world, television and everyone".

Stars Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer will all reprise their roles from the original series for the special event, which will be produced remotely due to the Coronavirus.

We're not sure exactly what that means, but for their part, 30 Rock executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are psyched to be getting the gang back together, albeit virtually.

Fans on social media are excited by the news - although some have noted this network cross-promotion is exactly the sort of thing 30 Rock's network boss Jack Donaghy would have foisted onto an unhappy Liz Lemon. "Historically, this event is about the future of programming; this year, it's about the future of our industry-a future where we can meet audiences wherever they are, with the stories that move them".

NBCUniversal's 30 Rock special will serve several purposes according to media insiders, drumming up audience interest in upcoming projects and filling up vacant airtime while also serving as an ultra flashy pitch package for potential ad buyers. As the old saying goes. when life hands you Lemon, have her host the upfront!'

Broadway Video and Little Stranger, Inc are producing the special in association with Universal Television and NBCUniversal Creative Partnerships.

30 ROCK originally aired on NBC from October 2006-January 2013. Who's your favorite character from the series?

"The series is ... the record-holder for most Emmy nominations in one season for any comedy series, and received a total of 103 Emmy nominations over seven seasons on NBC", Variety explained.
