Police responded to reports of a shooting incident in LaBelle Sunday morning and found the officer.

Eliceo Hernandez, 20, was arrested and charged with negligent manslaughter in Keen's death, WINK News reported.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and is now being held on $500,000 bond.

His arrest came after authorities said three suspects were detained and questioned in the case.

Authorities said that Keen was off-duty and was trying to stop a hit-and-run suspect when he was gunned down. His bond was set at $500,000, and his next court date is August 4.

The Florida Highway Patrol Command Officers Association said Keen was "murdered last night while following his calling to protect and serve others".

Sheriff Whidden continued, "we all knew Officer Keen, and he wasn't only our brother-but a role model for the community".

The Hendry County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation into the death and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is assisting.

While giving help, the officer was shot and killed at the scene.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) also indicated that Keen was killed "while reportedly taking action off-duty on a hit and run crash".
