The 51-year-old Academy Award-winning actress revealed on the most recent episode of A Podcast of One's Own With Julia Gillard that she accidentally cut her head with a chainsaw.

The two-time Oscar-winner reportedly took a "nick" out of her head while using the mechanical saw but fortunately avoided a serious injury.

The podcast was recorded last week as part of a series of conversations between Gillard and prominent women.

Gillard replied: 'Be very careful with that chainsaw. "Apart from the little nick to the head, I'm fine".

In response, the actress promised to "keep it on my shoulders".

Blanchett is now starring in the FX television series Mrs America about the women's movement in the United States in the 1970s.

The Carol star is now in lockdown with her husband Andrew Upton and their children, sons Dashiell, 18, Roman, 16, and Ignatius, 12, along with daughter Edith, whom the pair adopted in 2015.

Blanchett, who won Oscars in 2005 and 2014 for her performances in "The Aviator" and Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine", told the podcast she had "huge respect" for the teaching profession after attempting home-schooling.

"I always wanted to play the bearded lady, so I asked them, 'Could I be your hairy wife woman when you pan across the banquet table of dwarves?'"

This comes after it was announced Cate would be voicing a guest character in the season finale of The Simpsons. And then all of that exam stuff evaporated and I'm left with an 18-year-old who doesn't want to have anything to do with me, so it's a little bit discombobulating.

The episode aired on May 17 in the United States on Fox.
