According to the same story, Manchester United are thought to be trailing La Liga giants Real Madrid in the race to sign the England global from Manchester City.

The Independent, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Manchester City's appeal to overturn Uefa's decision to ban the defending Premier League champions from the Champions League.

The second reason why Man United will not look seriously at Raheem Sterling is because of Marcus Rashford, a player who operates on the same flank as his global teammate.

The report suggests that the England global is being closely watched by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Red Devils' analytics department but acknowledges that Real would be the player's first choice of destination.

SunSport told you at the time how Real chiefs were planning to go all out with a £180m bid to land the winger.

Sterling has been one of the players earmarked to leave and has already been linked with a move to Real Madrid should City face expulsion from the Champions League.

City are understood to have no intentions of letting the winger leave in the coming transfer window, and especially not for one of their biggest rivals.
