One terrorist was killed by security forces in the Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir's Awantipora on Tuesday.

The elimination of "Fauji Bhai" and the two other terroirsts comes nearly a month after Riyaz Naikoo, one of Kashmir's most wanted terrorists and commander of terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the searches yielded no results, police said. "When the forces zeroed in on a suspected house, the hiding militants opened fire triggering a fierce gunbattle", the security officials said.

While Kumar said the identities of other two militants were being ascertained, police sources told The Tribune that they were locals named Javed Zargar of Rangmulla and Manzoor Kar of Sirnoo, in Pulwama district. A joint team of the police, the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon and search operation after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area. One security forces personnel was injured in an encounter.

A police spokesman said that one more militant was killed in the gunfight in Saimoh area of Tral.

He said that due to efforts of the police and security forces, it was a clean operation without any collateral damage. "The other two terrorists have not been identified yet", Vijay Kumar, Inspector General Police of Kashmir Range, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. The total number of militants killed in 2020 so far has now reached 88.

There has been an increase in anti-militancy operations in the Valley since April.
