61 new Covid-19 positive cases detected in Kerala today

Kerala, with 1,269 cases, is among the states seen to have been more effective in tackling coronavirus after an early surge. Of the new cases, 20 persons came from overseas and 37 from other states - 20 from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu, five from New Delhi, four from Karnataka and one each from Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the centre government on Saturday announced a phased exit from the over two-months-long lockdown ending May 31 while extending it till June 30. The first phase called "Unlock 1" will unlock the country barring the containment zones. Out of the new cases, 55 are returnees. With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 1,269, while over 1.34 lakh people are under observation.

15 people have been recovered of the disease today, taking total number of recovery cases to 590.

Kasargod and Malappuram accounted for 14 cases each, Thrissur 9, Kollam 5, Pathanamthitta 4, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam 3 each, Alappuzha and Palakkad 2 each while Idukki reported one case.

So far 1,31,651 people have entered the state, including 19,662 through airports and over one lakh through checkposts. While 1,33,413 persons are in home/ institutional quarantine, 1241 persons are kept under observation in hospitals. Besides, 11,604 of 12,506 samples taken from priority groups like healthcare workers, persons with high social exposure, workers etc.as part of sentinel surveillance also tested negative.
