There were four officers in total involved in the arrest and death of Mr Floyd, and all four have been fired, but none, including the man who was filmed kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck until he died, have faced any charges.

George Floyd died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes while he moaned "I can not breathe", the officer ignoring his cries for help and remaining on his neck even as his nose began bleeding. "I never begged for anything before", Floyd told Sharpton. "They are harming businesses (especially African American small businesses), homes, and the community of good, hardworking Minneapolis residents who want peace, equality and to provide for their families", Trump tweeted.

"It was hard, I was trying to talk to him, but he just kept pushing me off like 'I don't want to hear what you are talking about,"' Floyd added.

Governor Tim Walz held a press conference on Friday morning to address the incident, asking for calm amid this civil unrest while vowing to "rebuild the city, rebuild our justice system, and rebuild the relationship between law enforcement and those they're charged to protect".

"I am not a prosecutor, but let me be clear: The arresting officer killed someone", Frey told CBS News, via CNN. I have no idea if that's true or not, but they love our country. Why we got to have all this pain, man.

In her 29 May tweet, the FLOTUS argued that while the United States does allow for peaceful protests, "there is no reason for violence".

"The death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis was a grave tragedy".

Some protests have spilled over into rioting and looting that has seen buildings burned down.

Many social media users, however, used this opportunity to criticize Melania and her husband, US President Donald Trump.

While Philonise Floyd said he did not condone the more violent actions, he completely understands their frustration, anger and pain. "We don't have that, 'for all.' I have it, a lot of you have it, but it's not for all".

"I want everything to be peaceful, but I can't make everybody be peaceful".
