Given the nature of the world we are now living in, it seems very hard to believe that Liverpool would be willing to pay out the type of transfer fee that Napoli would nearly certainly ask for in order for them to let Koulibaly leave.

According to Dossena, Koulibaly would be ideal for the Premier League for two reasons - his physicality and his speed.

Despite a recent turnaround in form under the former AC Milan boss, Napoli are still sixth in the table and nine points adrift of fourth-placed Atalanta.

Koulibaly is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world, and was wanted by Manchester United last summer before they signed Harry Maguire.

Dossena, who played for Napoli between 2010 and 2013, fears the club could lose some of their key players if they are unable to join Europe's elite again next term, having reached the round of 16 before play was halted this season.

And Dossena thinks that would be too tough for "Gli Azzurri" to qualify once the season resumes.

According to le10sport, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has personally called Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly as he looks to convince the Senegalese to agree to an Anfield move this summer.

'To get nine points back from Atalanta is a mammoth challenge so should Napoli not clinch a Champions League berth, they should sell some players, ' Dossena said.

'The two most valued are Fabian Ruiz and Koulibaly; the latter is the most likely to leave.

It's explained Koulibaly as a "clear preference" for a move to England, and the "idea of playing the Champions League seduces him a lot".

Dossena adds that Koulibaly, with his fearsome blend of pace, power and superb reading of the game, could be the final piece in a "stratospheric" Liverpool squad.
