That is because of complications surrounding border restrictions, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, which could prevent Ighalo from being allowed to return in time for the season's planned restart in mid-June.

With his loan expiring at the end of this month, United were keen to extend his stay until the end of the season.

With Odion Ighalo expected to leave Manchester United in the coming days, Shanghai Shenhua have reportedly offered the Nigerian striker a massive salary to fend off interest from another Premier League club.

However, the ongoing global health crisis saw the Premier League suspended and so Ighalo's deal would end before any potential resumption.

Ighalo's contract at Old Trafford comes to an end next week, but the latest words from his representative suggest his loan move could be extended. The player's agent Ladi Salami went on to confirm that the negotiations with the Chinese have been going smoothly.

"On the other hand, in view of the latest regulations in force in (China), it is nearly impossible to offer such amounts".

"We're in dialogue and hopefully [he can stay]".

A further report revealed that about a third of the Chinese Super League players are now outside of China and face being refused entry until much later in the year.

"It's been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish off what he started, hopefully with a trophy for us".

"But at the moment nothing's been agreed yet".

"When we get started, it looks like we can have a full squad to choose from".

The return of both players could be a major boost to United's hopes of ending the season on a high in three competitions.
