"The thoughts of everyone at WWE are with Shad Gaspard's family during this hard time", he wrote.

Lifeguards had told police that Gaspard, 39, was swept out by a rip current at the weekend, when rescue workers were able to pull his 10-year-old son from the water. I love you more, my love ❤️. "You impacted so many and tonight was proof of your power in life and beyond".

Gaspard starred in the crowd-pleasing WWE, making up half of the tag team Cryme Time with his partner JTG.

Eagle-eyed fans connected the short-lived wrestling tag teammates, after the actor paid tribute to the late WWE star with a picture of them vandalizing John Bradshaw Layfield's limo from 2008 on Instagram.

"Beautiful evening to celebrate the life and legacy of our dear friend, @Shadbeast", Ryan wrote on Twitter. There are not enough words to describe what he means to all of us.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said: "My prayers and hope for Shad Gaspard's wife, son and family during this unthinkable time".

"Shad was and will always be our real life super hero", she said.

"I join fans around the world as we remember Shad Gaspard as a beloved performer and a caring father", tweeted WWE icon Triple H. He was our heart, our soul, our protector, our warrior. He was a bright force of nature, who brought joy to many through his joyous and gracious nature.

"Aryeh, myself and the Gaspard and Chittick families would like to take this time to thank everyone for their prayers and support, as we mourn the awful loss of our beloved Shad", said Siliana. "This is a tough one to process". WWE also issued an official statement.

Though he wasn't in the WWE as long as others or a major title holder, Shad Gaspard was well known as a journeyman of several wrestling organizations. Gaspard had gone missing while swimming with his son at Venice Beach in California on May 17. Shad drowned in the ocean, but not before instructing lifeguards to save his 10yr old son first.
