Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2020 began with the controversial decision to step back from the Royal Family and live a more independent life, along with their one-year-old son, Archie.

While earlier reports said Meghan and her mom, Doria Ragland, hadn't been able to hang out since the Sussex family relocated to California this spring, a source close to the Duchess of Sussex is now saying the opposite.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle greet children and youths on a visit to the Nyanga Methodist Church in Cape Town, South Africa.

"Last year, for Harry's birthday, Meghan recreated their Botswana camping adventures in their backyard".

Prince Harry revealed in the couple's 2017 engagement interview that he whisked Meghan, 38, away to Botswana after just two dates in London in 2016.

"And then it was I think about three, maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana", he said at the time.

As per the outlet, these details will be included in Harry and Meghan's biography titled Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.

"And we camped out with each other under the stars".

A year later, Prince Harry took Markle back to Botswana to celebrate her 36th birthday, so the getaway definitely holds a special place in the couple's hearts.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly follow the age-old tradition of giving gifts fitting a particular theme for each wedding anniversary, the second anniversary being the theme of "cotton".

"Meghan designed Harry's card, and hand-wrote a handsome, sentimental message inside expressing her love for him", they said.

BAZAAR.com understands that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a low-key anniversary celebration, spending part of the day looking back at their 2018 wedding with a number of people over video calls-including some of the vendors who helped bring their Windsor Castle ceremony and receptions to life.

However, when it comes to gifting each other, both Harry and Meghan always go the extra mile and give each other "incredibly romantic gifts", according to People magazine.
