Coronavirus Lockdown: 82 flights to and from Delhi were cancelled.

Three large Indian states have sought to delay the planned opening of their airports on Monday (May 25) as new cases of the novel coronavirus jumped by a record, complicating the federal government's plan to resume flights after a two-month lockdown.

Passengers travelling on Monday could only board flight if they had no symptoms, were registered on the government's Covid-19 app, and had checked in online.

However, even before resumption of domestic flights, there was utter confusion among airlines about destinations they could connect to as well as the number of flights they could operate as State governments were reluctant to open airports fearing an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Around 60 departures and 54 arrivals have been scheduled for today.

To ensure social distancing at the airport, markings have been made on the floor to help passengers stand with a minimum gap of 1 metre.

While a flight to Pune was the first to take off from Delhi at 4:45 AM, a Patna-bound flight was the first to take off from Mumbai at 6:45 AM.

Puri on Saturday admitted that several states have expressed reluctance to resume flights from Monday.

"We were going to Delhi. But nothing is confirmed yet", a woman, sitting on her suitcase, told NDTV.

There were last-minute cancellations of several flights and many passengers who reached the airport could not go inside as their flights were cancelled. Additionally, all crew on the flight will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for safety.

Mumbai: The operator of the Mumbai global airport said on Sunday it will resume commercial passenger services on domestic routes from May 25 with 25 departures and arrivals each.

"As many as 50 departures and arrivals are expected on day one and all flights will be operational from Terminal 2", the Mumbai International Airport Ltd ( MIAL) said in a release. The order prohibits domestic/international air travel till May 31. "We believe our new measures will boost confidence among passengers".

Northeast India too witnessed a disruption of flights, with flights arriving only in Assam's Guwahati and Manipur's Imphal airports. "The top airline during this schedule by ATMs will be Indigo with 47 per cent while Air Asia and Spicejet have 16 per cent and 14 per cent respectively", the airport said in an official release.

The eastern state of West Bengal is reeling under the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan. Yet another flight of the operator will land in the city from Bengaluru at 2 pm and depart at 2.40 pm. Mere thermal scanning of passengers inadequate w/o swabs. All worldwide scheduled commercial passenger flights remain suspended.

With all domestic (air/ rail/ inter-State bus) travel to resume from Monday, the Health Ministry issued new guidelines for inter-State travel and worldwide arrivals, stating that only COVID-asymptomatic domestic passengers/ global arrivals will be permitted with the advice that they shall self-monitor their health for 14 days. Those found asymptomatic can go with the advice to "self-monitor their health for 14 days".
