Cate Blanchett is reportedly in talks to star as Lilith in the upcoming Borderlands movie adaptation.

Cate Blanchett in Thor: Ragnarok. Lionsgate had no comment.

Eli Roth is directing the movie, and producing along with Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig.

The latest version of the script was written by the Emmy-winning screenwriter behind HBO's Chernobyl series, which is an undeniably positive sign that the Borderlands story will be brought to life in an engaging way.

What do you guys make of this news? The Borderlands series is published by 2K. The first game was "set in the distant future, at a time when various mega-corporations seek control of various planets to colonize and mine for their mineral wealth and resources".

Per the Borderlands wiki, "Lilith's action skill is called Phasewalk, which lets her turn invisible to enemies (but not to her teammates, to whom she appears as translucent blue), move much faster, and cause a damaging shockwave (Phase Blast) upon entering and exiting". The film is an adaptation of the Borderlands game, which was released in 2009 and spawned three sequels - Borderlands 2 in 2012, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in 2014, and Borderlands 3 in 2019. She is one of only six women in the galaxy that belongs to the powerful "siren" class, wielding incredible, superhuman powers.

Lilith is one of the main protagonists in the franchise, and one of the playable characters in the first "Borderlands" game. I would never use the words "restraint" and "caution" to describe Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who is one of the film's executive producers, along with Take-Two CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick.

Production will begin on the film later this year.

James Myers and Aaron Edmonds are overseeing the project on behalf of Lionsgate. She was also seen in "Where'd You Go Bernadette?", which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Most recently, Blanchett was filming the Guillermo del Toro thriller "Nightmare Alley" with Bradley Cooper until production was stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is repped by CAA and RGM Artists.
