Needless to say, this isn't necessarily good news for macOS developers who invested in SteamVR, but Valve says from this point, it'll only focus on the development of the platform on Windows and Linux.

Announced via an update on the official Steam forums, Valve revealed that SteamVR OSX support has been officially canned so the team can continue to focus on Windows and Linux.

Apple introduced "Metal for VR" back in June 2017 and highlighted a partnership with Valve. "Valve has been working with Apple on this since last summer, which shows a high level of technical and business confidence in Apple's VR efforts".

Nearly no games supported Mac and even Apple's highest end MacBook Pros failed to meet minimum specification requirements for Oculus or SteamVR.

As noted by UploadVR, Mac users will still be able to use SteamVR by running Windows with virtualization software like Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion. The library also contains several VR games from different developers including Valve itself.
