Nancy Pelosi rips White House for blocking Dr. Fauci from testifying

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he will not permit Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NAID) to testify in front of Congress because "the House is a set up, and its members are a bunch of Trump-haters and they should be ashamed of themselves".

The White House argued in its memo that task force members being forced to stop addressing work on combating the virus, in order to prepare for Congressional hearings, would be counterproductive.

The California Democrat continued that Meadows, who left the House to become the White House Chief of Staff, would be well aware from his prior position that the House would be insistent on finding out the truth regarding the federal government's response to the pandemic.

Trump's remarks amounted to an admission that he was looking to prevent Democrats from conducting their oversight duties when it comes to his administration's coronavirus response, even as he's willing to allow Republicans to proceed.

"We had two years of collusion nonsense, then we tried to impeach a president, remove him from office", she said.

Some invitations to testify will be declined, especially if officials feel that topics overlap with another hearing.

"Shame on us if we don't have enough tests by the time this so-called return might occur in the fall and winter", said Dr.

"Dr. Fauci will be testifying in front of the Senate and he looks forward to doing that", Trump said. He added that Dr. Fauci will testify before the Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CNN's Wolf Blitzer she thinks she knows why: "The fact is that we need to allocate resources for this".

"The White House is blocking key officials from testifying to Congress about the response to the coronavirus crisis".

Trump disclosed this to reporters outside the White House before he departed for Arizona, where he will visit a medical equipment facility.
