Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed his Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger refused to be a presenter at the 2007 Oscars over a joke involving their characters' romantic relationship.

"There are things you're chosen for - a quality, an essence - and Ang did that", he explained. "And it is still a puzzle to me".

The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards at the 2007 Oscars ceremony, while Gyllenhaal and Ledger were both given acting nominations.

He told Another Man magazine: "I mean, I remember they wanted to do an opening for the Academy Awards that year that was sort of joking about it". "I was sort of, at the time, 'Oh, okay.whatever.' I'm always like: it's all in good fun".

Brokeback Mountain features how love blossoms between the two leading men, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. "He would never joke", he opened up to "Sunday TODAY" host Willie Geist in July 2019. "Much like, no more'".

Before his death, formed the Ledger in the several years couple with Michelle Williams, who also plays his wife in the film.

"Throughout the meeting, Gyllenhaal also talked about how far he has evolved as a celebrity as then, his changing way to his craft and the way previously, he is" concealed much" throughout his film characters. "I think I've hidden a lot".

The critically acclaimed film told the story of two cowboys who had a homosexual relationship in the American West from 1963 to 1983. It was a dedication of mine into the man I played with for myself personally. "It felt like a great deal of stress".

"It doesn't really concern me".

The actor added,"And therefore I simply pushed extremely hard". It didn't have the response that I really wished for it. And I believe in certain ways, at the practice of this, studying from Jeff, that I played with in that film, I went, 'What are you now really doing? What am I pushing so hard for?' You know? You cannot pretend these items, you understand. You're never going to play the actual experience. And I'm kind of like: "'Fuck it, I'm not like that at all'". "And I went, 'Well, what the fuck is acting...' or, 'what the fuck is creation...without imagination?'"

Most recently, the actor has starred at Spider-Man: Far From Home, Southpaw and Nocturnal Animals.
