Master composer MK Arjunan passes away

Music maestro M K Arjunan, popularly known as Arjunan master, passed away at Kochi on Monday.

He composed over a thousands songs in around 200 movies during his career spanning 50 years. MK Arjunan, who ventured into movie music through composing songs for theatre, made his debut in 1968 with the movie "Karutha Pournami".

It is believed that he gave the first break to music greats like AR Rahman and YS Yesudas.

MK Arjunan's combination with lyricist Sreekumaran Thambi has been one of the most successful and celebrated combos of Malayalam cinema industry. Arjunan was also a close friend of Rahman's father RK Shekhar.

Sharing the sad news of Arjunan's demise, Resul Pookutty tweeted, "My heartfelt condolences. many of your tunes are etched in my memory, your artistry has shaped up many generations of music lovers!"
