Chris Godwin is letting Tom Brady have No. 12 for free

Tom Brady has worn the No. 12 for his entire career.

Brady wore No. 10 in college at MI, but became well known for No. 12 while winning six Super Bowls with the Patriots.

"Obviously, if he doesn't want it or isn't making a big deal about it, I'm definitely going to keep it", Godwin said.

David also added he's "never seen anything like this before" while pointing at what we can only assume is Tampa Bay's new pewter jersey.

"Just out of respect to everything that he's accomplished and everything that he's done, I would kind of have to defer to him", Godwin said on ESPN on Friday.

It may end up being a great investment for Godwin.

The Buccaneers did already have a player listed as 14 on the 2020 roster, but first-year man John Franklin only wore that number for the 2019 season finale because the team planned to use him on offense. There was "no transaction" made between Brady and Godwin in a world where some athletes are willing to pay thousands of dollars just to wear their desired number.

Plus, Godwin has started a legacy of his own while wearing that number for the Buccaneers.

Now Godwin takes on a jersey number that, until Franklin's one-game cameo past year, had only been worn by quarterbacks in team annals. Most players do get attached to their numbers. They most recently overhauled their look in 2014.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will wear his traditional No. 12 jersey next season after new teammate Chris Godwin offered to give up the number free of charge, the team said on Tuesday.
