Nintendo Switch Shortages Hit Retailers and Online Stores

The Nintendo Wii was a massively popular console for Nintendo, the new Nintendo Switch is also very popular and could end up beating sales of the Wii in time. The Wii has sold over 101 million units worldwide, while the Switch has sold over 52 million copies, according to Nintendo. Searching for a console online at the moment presents you with constant "out of stock" messages; Target's wording actually says that the console is "discontinued for shipping". Third-party Amazon sellers have stock, but you can expect to pay up to $100 more than the retail price, depending on the model, and many of them arent available with memory cards.

That said, we should be alert to the replenishment of big N consoles in department stores in the coming days.

Both online and offline retailers are feeling the effects, as COVID-19 regulations are putting a limit on manufacturing capabilities, resulting in an insanely high demand for an insanely low supply. "We apologize for any inconvenience", a spokesperson for the company tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Nintendo hasn't given word on when to expect more shipments of the Switch, so these prices are just going to keep climbing.
