Square Enix has announced that NieR Replicant - the first entry in the NieR series - will be receiving a new version for consoles and PC, celebrating the series' 10th anniversary.

A black scrawl disease and unusual beasts threatened the world. A thousand-year lie that would live on for eternity... Continuing the Drakengard storyline, NieR Replicant it's known, will be headed up by Happy Dungeons dev Toylogic, with input from PlatinumGames.

NieR Replicant will be recreating the original Japanese version of Yoko Taro's cult-classic where the main character takes the form of an older brother trying to save his sister, Yonah. You can see what we thought of it when we reviewed Nier Replicant a cool decade ago. Let us know. Nier Replicant is regarded as a cult classic because it featured fantastic combat as well as an intriguing story.

Ever since the runaway success of Nier Automata back in 2017, fans have long clamoured for Square-Enix to remaster the very first Nier which was released back in 2010.

Nier Replicant is technically a prequel to Nier Automata, but neither game relies on the other for the story or events to make sense.

The release date is still undecided, but Square Enix hopes to release it during the 10th anniversary. New endings may also be available, too, although that's not confirmed just yet.

Yui Ishikawa, who voiced 2B in NieR: Automata, and Natsuki Hanae, who voiced 9S, will have a small role in this game.
