What is physical distancing?

Now the World Health Organization says it should rather be called physical distancing and not social distancing.

Trudeau said the government is working to secure flights to other locations, including Peru and Spain, in the coming days but said the government will not be able to help all Canadians seeking assistance.

"Canadians doing essential work who need to cross the border, please use that hotline to let us know if you are having difficulties".

The proposed measures announced last week by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Bill Morneau include changes that would make it easier for people to take time off if they fall ill with COVID-19.

Nova Scotia is the latest province to declare a state of emergency, restricting gatherings to no more than five people.

Trudeau has so far resisted the idea of putting into place the federal equivalent, the Emergencies Act, saying Monday that since it requires taking power out of the hands of the provinces, there needs to be a discussion with them first.

The federal government is launching a $30-million ad campaign to advise Canadians about how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, beginning today.

The WHO earlier urged the public to practice social distancing as the virus is transmitted via droplets released when someone coughs or sneezes.

There are more than 1,400 cases of COVID-19 across the country and 19 people have died.
