Victorian coronavirus death toll rises to three

Coronavirus has claimed its first victims in Victoria.

A third Victorian has died from coronavirus while another three are fighting for their lives in hospital.

"All died in a Melbourne hospital and, of course, I am urging everyone to respect the privacy of the families during this hard time", she told reporters.

There are a total of 2,675 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia.

"We should reflect on how we love those people and we should think about that across the board".

"If you're sick, stay at home".

After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 168 countries and regions, according to data compiled by US -based Johns Hopkins University. If you have just come back from overseas in the last 14 days, you stay at home.

"I would strongly make the argument we need to be ahead of it and not get to a point where if we do step up, and if it is inevitable, we are not doing it too late", he said.

People in geographical areas where there is increased risk of community transition will also be eligible, as will all hospitalised patients with fever and acute respiratory symptoms of unknown cause, at the discretion of the treating clinician.
