The coronavirus outbreak is just starting to affect the United States, while other countries Europe are under pressure for a couple of weeks now.

As the coronavirus causes uncertainty in our daily lives, we are all looking for data to help us make more informed decisions and check on our family and friends in different areas.

This new coronavirus tracking will be available in The Weather Channel iOS and Android apps, on and in an online dashboard.

The Weather Channel is usually a great resource to get up-to-the-minute information on the current conditions and precise forecasts, but amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the service wants to provide you with additional data on the current spread of the disease. The new tracking tool is mostly aimed at USA users, as developers confirmed that The Weather Channel app users will get access to information from official sources about the reach of the pandemic, " down to a country level in the United States".

This information from IBM, which runs on its Watson and Cognos Analytics tools, are intended for use by both researchers and public officials - but they're also meant for general public consumption. This is collected on a so-called "incident map" that displays color-coded reported case data for states and counties, as well as on state-wide trend graphs and through reporting of stats including relative percentage increase of cases week-over-week.

Starting with US locations and with additional global data anticipated to follow shortly, the tool will provide trend visualization, interactive mapping, news and information to help track the pandemic. There are links to the latest news and videos from The Weather Channel team, and when possible, there are additional details including public health information, like locations of testing centers.
