LeBron James has been slapped with a lawsuit for posting a picture of himself, becoming the latest celebrity to be sued over a similar claim.

The lawsuit against James and his companies Uninterrupted Digital Ventures and LRMR Ventures, stated that a photo of James dunking a basketball against the Miami Heat on December 13 previous year was posted on the player's Facebook and Instagram pages without the photographer's permission.

"This is an action for copyright infringement under Section 501 of the Copyright Act", a court document read, filed by Mitchell, obtained by TMZ Sports.

Mitchell is a freelance photographer who licenses his images for a fee.

Former Los Angeles Laker Metta World Peace talked about what happened that day on Instagram Live on Tuesday.

A social media post featuring a LeBron James dunk could prove costly for the National Basketball Association star.

Of all the superstars who entered the National Basketball Association right out of high school, James was the most physically developed and ready to compete against seasoned pros. He argues that James violated copyright protections by posting the image without permission.

Although James has been solid for much of the season, he trains his body to start peaking close to playoff time and we were only about a month from the postseason.

Thank you, LeBron. We needed that. James has not publicly addressed the lawsuit.
