Real Madrid Belgian winger, Eden Hazard, believes that his first season at Real Madrid did not go as expected after the player missed most of the season due to injury.

Hazard revealed he would have been fit to play if the tournament had of started in June despite now nursing an ankle injury.

It's a great group of players, I've met a lot of new people.

Hazard, 29, like his Real Madrid teammates is in self-isolation in Madrid after returning from the United States and had originally targeted a return to competitive action in time to represent Belgium at Euro 2020, which has now been definitively postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic. "I still have four years of contract, I hope be in good shape".

"It's up to me to be in good shape next year".

"I was expecting to reach it, so I was disappointed by the change", he added.

"I had planned to play [in Euro 2020]. We are like everyone else, I will wait until the next year".

"I think it is hard for the fans because they want to see an global tournament every summer, for them it is a shame".

"But I also think there are priorities in life".

"I would have had a lack of pace, of course, but you don't lose your quality".

At present, the Spanish campaign is on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak and Hazard is in isolation.

"It's better, we removed the stitches a week ago", Hazard added.

"Now I'm working a little harder".

"I can walk now, so everything is fine!"

Despite following the Spanish government's orders, Hazard is anxious about transmitting coronavirus to others.

"I'm not saying I can't catch it, but I'm inside the house, nobody's coming, we can't see anyone", he said.

"We have to take care of ourselves".

Hazard, who was sidelined between November and January with a similar problem, admitted it has hardly been a debut campaign to remember with Los Blancos, though he knows he has time to win the critics around.
