Now the longtime QB is helping out again, as Brees and his wife Brittany have committed to pledge $5 million to the state of Louisiana to help battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Brees says in an Instagram post that they will also be partnering with organizations and businesses like Second Harvest Food Bank and Waitr to prepare and deliver 10,000 meals a day throughout Louisiana. Let's all do our part, maintain hope, and get through this together. At a time when communities must work more closely together than ever in the face of a public health crisis, it's great to see this sort of leadership from the faces of the Saints franchise.

Drew Brees just picked up his first win of 2020.

Louisiana is believed to be the next major COVID-19 hotspot in the US.

"We are all grateful for your family's support and generosity through this trying time", the governor wrote.

"We're not invincible, and every one of us certainly can catch this thing", Payton told ESPN.com.

In his letter to Trump, Edwards included a chart that showed Louisiana had surpassed NY - by far the hardest-hit state during the outbreak - in terms of the growth in new coronavirus cases.

The quarterback and his wife run the Brees Dream foundation, which has spent tens of millions helping to fund charitable endeavours in New Orleans and surrounding areas along the Gulf Coast.
