Royole's next foldable phone is much better at bending

Foldable smartphones have been a trend since early 2019.

The FlexPai 2 was revealed as part of a larger announcement which focused on Royole's new flexible display technology, with the aforementioned handset set to be the first device to use it. The latest iteration features various improvements over its predecessor and now has a smaller crease and bend radius.

The panel also benefits from a boost in brightness, contrast, color gamut and viewing angle, all of which are further enhanced by a new custom driver chip. Unsurprisingly, this latest flagship is powered by Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 865, which comes with 5G radio, faster LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage.

Royole hasn't revealed the full details on the new FlexPai 2 foldable phone, but we do know it will come with a large, 7.8-inch external "outie" display with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Royole hosted the event to boast about its new foldable display, and it truly is mesmerizing. This new flexible panel features almost 100 micro nanomaterials that improve the strain recovery and "layer peeling". The panel can be folded in multiple directions, and even rolled, when on its own, and the company promises it will keep its impressive performance. This will probably result in ZTE releasing a phone based on the Flexpai 2 although no specifics were given. However, that is just speculation.

There's now no word on the FlexPai 2 price, but we do know it'll be launched officially sometime during Q2 (April-June) this year.
