The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a new Star Wars movie is in the works from Dillard and Owens.

A new Star Wars movie helmed by relatively unknown director J.D. Dillard is now in the works at Disney, according to a recent report from THR's HeatVision newsletter.

Lucasfilm is developing a new "Star Wars" feature film with "Sleight" writer-director J.D. Dillard and "Luke Cage" writer Matt Owens, Variety has confirmed.

No more details on this event have yet been released, but I'd expect it to focus on the European side of the launch, including showing off all the Disney+ Original content such as Togo, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made, Lady & The Tramp, High School Musical: The Musical - The Series and the Mandalorian.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have marked the end of an era for one saga, but there's another one soon on the horizon.

This new project is unrelated to the Star Wars film pitch by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Rian Johnson's Star Wars movie project that, yes, he is still working on.

But although Disney has three "Star Wars" movies dated to debut in theatres in Dec. 2022, Dec. 2024, and Dec. 2026, no actual projects have been officially attached to those dates.

As far as what we do know about the future of Star Wars, The Mandalorian will debut Season 2 later this year, and there are shows based on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Rogue One's Cassian Andor and K-2SO in the works.

And much of Disney+'s 28.6M subscribers were thanks to the popularity of Baby Yoda in Jon Favreau's eight-episode Star Wars spin-off (and Shogun Assassin rip-off), The Mandalorian, which boasts a 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
