Kellye Nakahara, ‘MASH’ actress, dead at 72

Kellye Nakahara has died at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer. "RIP Kellye Nakahara", one person said on Twitter. "We are all devastated and will miss her more than can be known".

When she was cast as Nurse Kellye, it was a bit part, a background character with few speaking lines, but the role grew in prominence each season. In fact, it's regarded as one of the show's most touching as well. "I loved the smell of the tents". So I would have a great time with the writers and talk to them and the crew, who I loved. After acting, she became a watercolor painter and opened a studio.

Nakahara portrayed Nurse Kellye Yamato for 167 episodes on the popular show, which is still in syndication. Ho in 1985's madcap comedy Clue, as well as featuring in 1988's She's Having a Baby and 1996's Black Day Blue Night.

The professional artist married David Wallett in 1968 and the couple had two kids together, the outlet reported. A Facebook page belonging to her company, Kellye Wallett Studio, also confirmed her death.

Kellye was an accomplished artist who was awesome with watercolors. Early in her career, she sold her pieces through San Francisco's Polk Gallery. Reportedly, her family was by her side when she peacefully died at her home in Pasadena. She also was commissioned to paint a Christmas ornament for the Official White House Christmas Tree in 2008. Her other television credits have included "Little House on the Prairie", "Growing Pains", "NYPD Blue", "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", "The Wild Thornberrys", "Crisis Center", "Dream On", "Hunter", "Otherworld", "Matt Houston", "At Ease", and "Kolchak: The Night Stalker".
