The former CEO and co-founder of Microsoft said his auto is a premium vehicle and he enjoys riding it, but when asked by the YouTuber if he has come across any problem in the new Porsche Taycan that might put people off from buying it, Gates replied that the distance the auto covers in a single recharge does not meet expectations.

"My conversations with Gates have been underwhelming [to be honest]", Musk tweeted Monday evening in response to a user who brought up Gates' decision.

Gates told YouTube tech reviewer Marques Brownlee in an interview that he purchased his first-ever EV, a Porsche Taycan, and he called the vehicle "very, very cool". While speaking about climate change, he said that passenger vehicle segment is one of the sectors that could make a big difference.

Gates is known as a luxury auto collector - he famously fought so hard to import a rare Porsche 959 that he helped get a special law passed.

"Tesla, if you had to name one company that's helped drive that, it's them", said Gates. Gates also discussed "range anxiety" - or concerns about how far an electric vehicle can go before it needs another charge - as one of the reasons why buyers may be hesitant about going electric. He said that consumers have to overcome certain anxieties like limited range that EVs have to offer along with the time it takes to recharge them.

However, the South African born inventor Musk was clearly not impressed by this purchase decision or about the fact that Gates mentioned some of the challenges that the electric auto industry faces. The Taycan Turbo S has the ability to go from zero to 60mph in 2.6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 161mph. Another posted side-by-side comparison pictures of the interiors of both cars, highlighting the differences between the Taycan's dashboard and the Model 3's.
