Severe symptoms such as pneumonia occurred in 14% of them and critical illness in 5%.

As of Monday, 70,548 people had been infected across China, the majority in and around Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, where the outbreak was first reported.

Japanese officials on Monday confirmed 99 more people were infected on the Diamond Princess, bringing the total to 454.

A top United States health official on Sunday said 40 Americans from the ship have become infected and would be treated in Japan.
