"The Embassy is in close coordination with the relevant Philippine and Japanese government agencies, and representatives of the World Health Organization and Princess Cruises to ensure that the needs of the Filipino crew and passengers are met and to facilitate their return to the Philippines", DFA said in a statement.

One charter flight carrying evacuated Americans arrived at Travis Air Force Base near Fairfield, California, around 11:28 p.m. local time Sunday.

The latest figures come as Downing Street confirmed that more than 70 Britons stranded the ship could be flown home.

Buses carrying United States passengers who were aboard the quarantined cruise ship the Diamond Princess, seen in background, leaves Yokohama port, near Tokyo.

Two more Indian citizens on board a luxury cruise ship off Japan have been tested positive for Novel Coronavirus, which has killed hundreds in China.

The U.S. said it arranged the evacuation because people on the Diamond Princess were at a high risk of exposure to the virus. For the departing Americans, the evacuation cuts short a 14-day quarantine that began on board the cruise ship February 5.

"They were then taken off the bus, moved into the aircraft and that dedicated isolation area, which was the safest place for them to get away from the rest of the passengers and give us time to make decisions", Walters said.

Like other repatriated Americans, the remaining passengers will be quarantined on the bases for 14 days.

Passengers who did show symptoms would not be allowed to board a flight home, the CDC said in a statement.

Some who were diagnosed with the fast-spread strain of coronavirus have already been hospitalized in Japan.

Americans Cheryl and Paul Molesky, a couple from Syracuse, New York, opted to trade one coronavirus quarantine for another, leaving the cruise ship to fly back to the US.

So far, the US has 15 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, not including the 14 new cases.

Canada, Hong Kong and Israel have also said they are preparing to send chartered flights to Japan to evacuate their citizens from the vessel, where 355 infections are confirmed.

"Well, we're exhausted, but we're on the plane and that's a good feeling".

The number of people infected globally stands at 68,500, according to the country's National Health Commission.

"When I heard their voices though, the sound of those familiar American voices, it was immediately comforting", she said in the post.

Smith, an American lawyer, said he and his wife are "both well".

"Just to leave 3,000 people on that ship, knowing that there are infected people - and all those people who actually are not infected are exposed to those who are infected - 3,000 is too many, you need to split them up, you need to put them somewhere else", he said.

"That did get to me a bit".

"We haven't received results yet, but we have no reason to expect we're infected", he said.
