Wayfair confirmed Thursday that it is laying off 3% of its global workforce, which works out to be more than 500 employees.

The Bangor Daily News reports that on Thursday that Wayfair will lay off 55 people from its contact center in Brunswick and one from a similar center in Bangor.

Four people in Bryan are affected. Wayfair reported net losses of $272 million in the last quarter, which was more than double its losses from Q4 a year earlier.

"As part of that process, we have made some organizational changes", she added. It has expanded operations in MA recently, opening a sales and service call center in Pittsfield offering hundreds of jobs in the Berkshires.

Despite the layoffs, Wayfair said it will continue to hire for many roles that are essential to growing the business.

In a statement emailed to Business Insider, a company spokesperson said that 350 jobs will be impacted in its Boston headquarters.

"We remain as confident as ever in Wayfair's future and our steadfast focus on delighting our customers with the best experience for home", the statement said.

We now have more than 17,000 employees worldwide.

We have a little over 500 people in our Bryan Sales and Service center.

Wayfair spokesperson Susan Frechette tells the BDN that the workers who will be laid off in ME are members of special team led out of the company's Boston offices.
