No. 12 Kentucky looks to extend streak vs Vandy

Vanderbilt got 20 points from Saben Lee, 13 from Scotty Pippen Jr., and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Dylan Disu. The Wildcats' mark was above their season average of 0.501, while the Volunteers' was below their season average of 0.485. Kentucky now grabs an average of 37 rebounds a game, compared to Vanderbilt's 32. Redshirt sophomore Ejike Obinna tied a season high with 12 points and freshman Jordan Wright tied a career high with 11 points. In addition to his 25 points, he had four rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. Vanderbilt is 95-238 all-time against ranked opponents and 65-78 at home.

The matchup between the Wildcats and Commodores will be the 400th career game for Calipari at Kentucky.

John Calipari will reach another career milestone Tuesday night when Kentucky takes on Vanderbilt. It was the first multiple 30-point efforts by an SEC team since Jodie Meeks (32) and Patrick Patterson (33) against Tennessee State (12.22.2008).

The Cats held Vanderbilt to 37 percent shooting (22 of 59) from the field, including just three 3-pointers in the second half.

He has also been Kentucky's most consistent kid.

The Wildcats ended second overall in the 2019 recruiting class, finishing first in the SEC. Lee almost averages 17 points a game while shooting 49% from the field.

The Wildcats' average margin of victory in their last five games has been 4.6, down from 9.6 for the season. According to KenPom.com, Vanderbilt has 1.13 years of experience on its roster, which ranks 320th in Division I basketball.

Trailing 44-35 with 15:06 to play, the Wildcats turned the momentum in their favor by going on an 16-2 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Maxey that bounced all around the rim before falling in, to take a 51-46 lead.

Kentucky: The Wildcats came in second in the SEC and 15th in the country defending against the 3, allowing opponents to shoot almost 29% outside the arc. Four others made at least one 3 as Vanderbilt shot better outside the arc than Kentucky from the floor. He's making 40.8 percent of his three-point shots and is No. 2 in the nation in free throw percentage behind only Terrell Gomez of Cal State-Northridge, who has made 84 of 89 for 94.4 percent. He also ranked eighth in free-throw percentage (.825) and field-goal percentage (.512) prior to his injury.

January 29, 2020 - Lexington, Ky. Kentucky has won seven consecutive games in the series, dating back to a Vanderbilt win at Memorial Gym on February 27, 2016 (74-62). The Wildcats have won three straight at Memorial Gym.

Junior center Nick Richards added 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots for UK. All-American Will Perdue scored 17 and Barry Booker had 14.

Former North Carolina (1993-95) and National Basketball Association star Jerry Stackhouse is in his first year as the head coach of the Commodores and has done well developing a consistent and methodical offense, but not so much on the defensive side. The defensive side of the court will be the main reason why Vanderbilt wins this game. Vanderbilt would have won the title outright over Alabama that year, but lost at Florida to close the regular season.
