If Salah takes part in the Olympics, he will not only miss Liverpool's pre-season, but also the start of next campaign too. But is he compelled to do so?

Egypt worldwide Mohamed Salah has been named Liverpool's Player of the Month for January.

The final of the men's event will be held on August 8 - the day before the 2020/21 Premier League season gets underway - which means if Salah does opt to represent Egypt at the Games, he will nearly certainly miss the start of the domestic campaign.

With Liverpool sure to add variety to the squad as well as some rotation options, there will certainly be cover for the Egyptian King. "Salah is one of the top three players in the world and any team hopes to have a player of his capabilities and skills in the squad".

'I haven't talked to Salah at all about him joining the Under-23 squad for the Olympics, but in all honesty, his participation in the Olympics will need a little effort from him as well'.

Some Reds supporters think it would be best if their club offloaded the 27-year-old and replaced him with Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho. Federation Internationale de Football Association has long acknowledged that clubs are not obliged to release over-age players for the Games.

He continued, "Salah's participation with the Pharaohs team is a decision to be taken only by Salah, his club Liverpool and his coach Jurgen Klopp".

But Egyptian Olympic team coach Shawky Gharib said they could not force the player to be involved.

"We can not force Salah to participate with us", the gaffer told Reuters (via BBC).

Egypt are one of three African nations taking part in the Games, alongside Ivory Coast and South Africa, and will submit their final list of 18 players for the tournament in June.
