Hamilton is targeting a seventh world title this year, which would equal the all-time record of Michael Schumacher.

'I know you guys are all gunning for number seven but I think we've got to take it one step at a time, we have no idea where we're going to stand compared to everybody else so we've just got to be more efficient this year in our test programme, particularly as we have less time.

The German auto manufacturer released some renderings of the challenger on Friday morning, with the vehicle set to have its first shakedown test at a filming day at Silverstone.

Meanwhile Max Verstappen, who could be one of Hamilton's closest challengers, had a run in the Red Bull vehicle for the upcoming season during a filming day at Silverstone on Wednesday.

Hamilton said: "I find it amusing seeing that. Maybe God is with him, but he is not God". "I've just always known to do my talking on the track". The 35-year-old has won at least nine races in each of the past six seasons.

Lewis Hamilton fired a warning shot to his rivals, saying he is feeling "on another level physically and mentally" ahead of the Formula One season. "Often I tend to see that (talk) as a sign of weakness".

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said the champions were taking nothing for granted before the new season. "Today, success would be we have a good shakedown, clock the mileage, get the filming done and then go to Barcelona, get the work done, collect the data and go in good shape to Melbourne [for the season's opening grand prix]".

No details have been released just yet, but the auto appears to be an evolution of last year's W10, with hallmarks including a conventional front wing design, aerodynamic wing mirror shrouds and a large air box surrounding a triangular crash structure.

Mercedes is the last of the frontrunning teams to have launched its auto, with both Ferrari and Red Bull having shown off their 2020 challengers earlier this week.

An online launch and imagery of the vehicle on track will follow later in the day.

And the former Toro Rosso team, who are being rebranded as Alpha Tauri this year, will unveil their auto in Austria on Friday evening.
