For 11 seasons, Matthew Stafford has been the most important man on the field for the Detroit Lions.

The team confirmed to 7 Action News' Quinn's statement to the Detroit Free Press calling the rumors "100% false".

The report came out early Thursday morning form WDIV citing sources who said the Lions have been discussing a trade for Stafford for a couple of weeks.

Beyond Quinn's strong response, there are factors that could deter a Stafford trade this offseason. Moving Stafford would also result in a bigger cap hit than keeping him, which may be another reason why any thoughts of a trade may not be on the front burner in Detroit. The duo was retained after a disappointing 3-12-1 campaign, but owner Martha Firestone Ford said she expects the Lions to be a playoff contender in 2020. In eight games, Stafford threw for 19 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

A post from Stafford's wife Kelly on Instagram referenced trade chatter. With the Lions picking third in the National Football League draft, there's been speculation the team could consider taking a quarterback at that spot and trade Stafford to get extra pieces.
