Kobe Bryant honored at 2020 Oscars

During the "In Memoriam" tribute, other notable actors, artists and contributors to the world of cinema who died in the past year were remembered.

In 2018, Kobe Bryant accepted his first ever Oscar.

The Academy paid tribute to the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant at the 2020 Oscars Sunday.The former NBA star, killed alongside his daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash on January 26, was an Oscar victor himself.

Longtime NBA superfan Lee has a special connection to Bryant.

On Sunday evening, the famous director walked the red carpet of the Oscars 2020 wearing a purple custom-made Gucci suit with gold trimmings.it also featured the number 24 - a nod to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend who wore the number in the latter half of his career.

Later during the nighttime, a legged with lights, the Los Angeles Lakers' colors, appeared during Shakira's halftime show functionality and Jennifer Lopez on the area. "May we all have a second act as great as his was", he said. He took home an Oscar in 2018 for Best Animated Short. Glen Keane animated the short film, but Kobe both directed and wrote the piece, proving that he was a true multi-hyphenate; Kobe's skills weren't just limited to the court.

A known New York Knicks fan and a native of the south, Lee paying homage to Kobe shows us just how much the future Hall of Famer meant to pretty much every basketball fan. "I'm glad we do a little bit more than that".
