Jim Carrey Under Fire For Saying Reporter Was On His Bucket List

The legendary comedian Jim Carrey is out and about promoting his newest film Sonic the Hedgehog, and amidst all the long press junkets, sometimes you hit a little bit of gold. "Just you", Carey replied.

The journalist, Charlotte Long, responds by laughing and covering her mouth.

Still, some of the responses on social media haven't been kind.

She took a beat to recover from the cute moment and then added, "I don't know what to say to that".

"Just own it", Carrey says.

"Look up "sleazeball" in the dictionary and there's a photo of @JimCarrey", wrote one Twitter user.

"He didn't insinuate sex, he said he was done with his bucket list".

Another called Carrey's answer unprofessional and "unfair" for the journalist involved.

Another Twitter user wrote that while they're "huge" fans of the actor, "this is really unacceptable".

Others have defended the actor, saying the comments were interpreted in the wrong way. "I swear it's the book burning scene in Footloose all over again".

Carrey's rep didn't immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

"This is a ridiculous non-story". You obviously meant the interview with her", added another, while a third wrote: "This fake Jim Carrey outrage is insane. That's it, I'm all done now!'

One Twitter user described what Carrey said as a comment about being "mentally present", and that his comment was about him not worrying about what he's going to do later while fulfilling his bucket list, but rather the interview itself. "This is another example of a clickbait headline pandering to the dark side of 'scroll culture" - a dirty business done by and for people with dirty minds".
