Jeff Bezos Mysteriously Sells $ 4 Billion Amazon Stock

Inc.'s founder and chief executive officer disposed of 2 million shares in the past week, collecting more than $4 billion (Dh14.6 billion), according to regulatory filings.

Bezos also raked in around $1.7 billion by selling almost 811,000 shares on Tueday and Wednesday, SEC filings show . CNBC previously reported that Bezos committed to selling $1 billion in Amazon stock per year to fund Blue Origin, so some of the recent stock transactions could go towards the space company.

A series of pre-arranged stock sales timed to follow fourth-quarter earnings raked in for the world's richest man nearly $3.5 billion in cash.

Tech titan Jeff Bezos sold a giant chunk of Amazon stock recently after telling reporters three years ago that he sells around $1 billion of stock a year to prop up his space company.

A spokesman for Amazon said in a statement to The Verge that the company is "nothing more important than the safety of its employees".

Bezos also has been on a shopping spree for art.

Amazon's stock price has jumped by a quarter in the past year and 11% since the start of this year, boosting the company's market capitalization to north of $1 trillion.

He was seen walking through the previews at Sotheby's in November and reportedly set a record for artist Ed Ruscha at a Christie's auction the same month with a $52.5 million purchase of "Hurting the Word Radio #2".

According to Page Six, Michael refers to Lauren as Bezos' "fiancee" in his lawsuit, which he filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court. The stock closed at $2,079.28 on Friday. On Friday and Monday, Bezos had managed to sell a total of 900,000 shares worth around United States dollars 1.8 billion followed by another 800,000 shares on Tuesday and Wednesday worth USD 1.7 billion.
