Hollywood barriers fall in milestone Oscars for 'Parasite'

Locations featured in South Korea's Oscar-winning Parasite movie have enjoyed a business boom since its Oscar triumph, with a pizza store seeing sales double.

NEON recently acquired the rights to the film and will be re-releasing the film in theaters before its home video release.

A big night: "Parasite" is the first non-English film and first South Korean film to win best picture at the Academy Awards.

At the Pig Rice Supermarket in western Seoul, a small grocery shop where one of the characters in Parasite is seen drinking during the film, owner Kim Kyung-soon said: 'I am really happy and thankful to them for shooting a great film here and making me famous too'. Only 11 non-English language films have ever been nominated in the category.

Parasite was written and directed by Bong Joon Ho and features a SAG Ensemble Award-winning cast including his long time collaborator Song Kang Ho, Choi Woo Shik, Park So Dam and Jang Hye Jin.

Accepting the award for best foreign-language film at the Golden Globes last month, the South Korean filmmaker, who has worked in both Seoul and Hollywood, said: "Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more awesome films".

South Koreans have been overjoyed by its success, with many paying visits to spots where scenes from the film were shot. It turns out, however, the trophy for Best International Feature Film does not actually go to the film's director.
