‘Ray Donovan’ Canceled After Seven Seasons at Showtime

T.V. series "Ray Donovan " It's done: the last finale of the seventh season was the last episode of the popular drama.

"Ray Donovan" won't be returning for an expected eighth season, with news emerging Tuesday that Showtime has opted to cancel the Liev Schreiber-starring series.

Levine said last month at the TCA that Ray Donovan was "nearing the end of its run, ' as it was initially planned for a 'seven or eight" season run. "We're proud that the sequence ended amid such robust viewership and on such a robust be aware. Speaking about the series at the Television Critics Association, Levine admitted that the show was "nearing the end of its run", though an eighth season on the network was still possible.

The show's seventh season finale last month ended with a cliffhanger, joining a list of high-profile shows that ended under similar circumstances, including Mork & Mindy, The Arrangement and My Name Is Earl.

Levine went on to note that the series was always meant to run "about seven or eight seasons". Nothing has been decided yet, but it is fair to say that the end is near " On Instagram, Schreiber added,"What an incredible trip it has been. Still, in many ways, the season 7 finale does feel like a series ender by putting a bow on some of its other storylines.

The series starred Liev Schreiber as the title character, a fixer for the rich and famous at first in Los Angeles and later in NY. "Either way it's been an fantastic ride and we have all of you to thank for it", he wrote. Ray Donovan was executive produced by David Hollander, Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and Lou Fusaro, and was created by Ann Biderman. While he made progress with Dr. Amiot (Alan Alda), there were dangers from the past that required the Ray Donovan of old. And when Feratti's corruption brings a piece of Mickey's past (Voight) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions.
