Iraq bars foreign arrivals from China over coronavirus fears

According to its Department of Health, a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan was admitted after experiencing symptoms related to the disease.

ASIA: South Korea reported three new cases of the coronavirus in the country. He was one of the two confirmed cases in the country; the other was a 38-year-old Chinese woman he was travelling with from Wuhan.

The number of Canadians who want to flee the Chinese province afflicted by the virus climbed to 325 on Sunday.

Also temporarily banned is travel to China, Hong Kong and Macau.

The United Arab Emirates today reported its fifth patient, another traveler from Wuhan, Al Arabiya reported yesterday.

The first foreign fatality came as an increasing number of governments around the world closed their borders to people from China in a bid to stop it spreading.

The news of the man's death was released shortly after the Philippines announced it would immediately halt the arrivals of any foreign travellers from China.

Those who traveled to China, Hong Kong or Macau in the last 14 days would also be banned, the Inquirer said.

The latest World Health Organization bulletin also warned against a massive "infodemic" - an over-abundance of information - some accurate and some not - that "makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it".

The Canadian government has not yet clarified how long Canadian evacuees will be quarantined - or whether they will be at all.
