And it's in video games that Star Wars fans may want to look next for the latest rumor.

The report from Cinelinx cites two independent sources confirming that Electronic Arts is now developing a remake of the beloved Bioware title.

Now while a KOTOR remake was originally set in motion back in 2015, EA scrapped that project less than a year later due to not seeing it as a priority.

It feels like barely a month goes by where we don't hear something about a new Knights of the Old Republic game, but this time there seems to be a renewed sense of optimism that we really are going to be able to revisit this beloved Star Wars gaming franchise. According to the other source, the upcoming title will serve as a sequel to the game.

There are several ways to interpret the information.

The Star Wars films and TV shows since have incorporated elements of the European Union, but Knights of the Old Republic remains a wildly popular franchise that fans frequently allude to when demanding new shows or movies set in the Star Wars universe. Either way, it's important to remember that these reports have not yet been confirmed so it's best to take it with a grain of salt.

An epic light-saber battle is seen in "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2". However, the Old Republic series was essentially wiped from canon when the Star Wars Expanded Universe was discarded in 2014, shortly after Disney acquired Lucasfilm.

It has also been rumored that the next "Star Wars" film will be set during what's called the "High Republic Era", roughly 400 years before the "Skywalker Saga".
