Rosario Dawson to Lead Ava DuVernay's DMZ Pilot at HBO Max

But now Rosario Dawson reportedly is getting set to step straight into the spotlight as the star of DMZ, the upcoming pilot bound for HBO Max based on DC's Vertigo comics series of the same name.

The pilot is produced by DuVernay's Array Filmworks, in association with Warner Bros.

In the near future, the aforementioned civil war leaves Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world.

Dawson may not be the first person who comes to mind when the topic of comic book adaptations arises, but she's been a part of several big ones in her career. Dawson will play fierce medic Alma Ortego, who goes on a harrowing journey of saving lives while desperately searching for her lost son. Along the way, she lends a hand to those in need, while dealing with ruthless gangs, religious fanatics and warlords. Television. However, it doesn't now have a release date, as it's still in pre-production.

This marks DuVernay's second DC comic project as she is now working on the big-screen adaptation of Jack Kirby's New Gods.

DuVernay's involvement in the project is no surprise given her multi-year deal with WBTV, which she signed back in November 2018. She appeared in Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez's adaptation of the graphic novel Sin City as well as the follow-up, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
