Android Pie users and below can manually enable it as well, or they can have it follow the battery saver (i.e. dark mode is enabled when battery saver is turned on). And instead of a black or grey background, it comes with a dark green theme to it.

It feels like an eternity since we first heard that the WhatsApp team was working on a dark mode. If you see Set by Battery Saver, it allows to automatically switch between the light or dark theme depending on the battery saver settings.

WhatsApp's Dark mode has been in the talks from 2018 and now the beta has been released and we should be expecting the stable update for Android users very soon. The folks at Wabetainfo learned recently that the latest version of WhatsApp submitted by developers through the Google Play Beta Program contains one important new feature - the long-awaited dark theme.

If you update your WhatsApp for Android to version 2.20.13, you will see that they have added the dark mode within settings. The feature is now available only for Android, iOS beta testers will soon get this feature too. If you are now not a beta tester of the app, and the waitlist is now full, then you can find a version of the app online and sideload it onto your smartphone. After the update, you can go to the settings of the application and tap on the Chats item. You can now select and choose the Dark option to change it to Dark mode. The new Dark Theme option appears in the WhatsApp Settings / Chats. Especially, the theme option offers three feature options such as Light Theme, Dark Theme, & System Default Theme. In case, you're not a beta user and waiting to use a dark theme for your WhatsApp, then download the Whatsapp APK Beta Version file from the authorized APK sites and install it on your smartphones.
