Shabana Azmi is in recovery after vehicle accident

Azmi has been moved to Panvel's MGM hospital.

"She is stable and under observation", Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO of Ambani hospital was quoted as saying in a statement late in the evening, reported PTI.

Veteran Indian actor Shabana Azmi was hospitalized on Saturday after her vehicle rammed into a truck on Mumbai-Pune expressway, Indian express reported.

The mishap happened around 3.30 pm near the Khalapur toll plaza when the Tata Safari Storme the actress and her husband Javed Akhtar were in rammed into a truck.

Azmi, who is known for her stellar performances in classics like Arth, Khandhar and Mandi, is the daughter of famous Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi. The driver escaped with a few abrasions.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is the first six-lane concrete, access controlled highway in the country. A CT scan confirmed subdural hematoma - a type of bleeding usually associated with a traumatic brain injury.

The actress is now admitted to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai and her immediate family is by her side. Azmi was rushed MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, filmmaker Hansal Mehta, and actors Neena Gupta, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Swara Bhasker wished a speedy recovery to the veteran actor on Twitter. She had injuries to the right side of her face and was bleeding, he said.
