Finally, Manchester United have reached agreement to sign £120,000 per week star Bruno Fernandes ahead of his medical over the weekend in England.

The Red Devils are now in negotiations with Sporting over a move for the 25-year-old and, although the two sides are yet to agree on a fee, a deal is believed to be close.

The Old Trafford giants are chasing the signing of Fernandes, who played what could be his last game in the Portuguese league on Friday night in a 2-0 home defeat to Sporting's rivals Benfica.

"I would prefer that he not leave", Silas added.

There are suggestions that Sporting Lisbon are not prepared to accept Manchester United's current offer and are believed to be holding out for more money before letting him go this month. There has been talk about the English league, but who wouldn't like to play there?

One part of Fernandes' game which it is hoped will be transplanted to Old Trafford is his outstanding goalscoring record which has seen him find the net 64 times in his three seasons in Lisbon.

"I am going to prepare for the game with Bruno but from then on I don't know what will happen".

"Bruno deserves everything and deserves to compete in a league like this". The only wish I have is the best for him.

Sky Sports News understands United feel their latest bid of £43m plus £17m in potential add-ons reflects Fernandes' form - as the midfielder has 13 goals in 21 games all competitions for Sporting. Reports have emerged claiming the Portuguese side are unhappy with the bonus clauses United hae included in their payment for Fernandes.

As a outcome, no further discussions are planned for this weekend between the two clubs but it's likely negotiations will resume at some point next week, Skysports report.
