'Modern Family' Fans Heartbroken after Death of Major Character in Latest Episode

If you haven't scene the most recent episode of Modern Family, stop reading now. Frank passed away from camera and the spectators listened to Phil giving his praise to the family. "I just didn't know it would be the last", Phil said. "Special I still feel special".

This isn't the first cast death on the series and last season, the network teased a big one, leading to much fan speculation about one of the core cast members exiting the show. "Keeping life light, making it fun for everybody", Frank said.

According to PEOPLE, Willard has played the role of Ty Burrell's character, Phil Dunphy's father for 14 episodes across 11 seasons of the show.

With a smile on his face, Phil said to his dad, "I learned from the best". Phil travels to Florida to see his father, and the episode follows the two for a day in the city, completing simple tasks such as taking a meal and getting a haircut.

Hyland's post actually spoiled the episode for some of her fans, and she immediately apologized for her error.

Frank Dunphy was played by Fred Willard, whom you might recognize as Mr. Stuffleby of Wizards of Waverly Place.

After the episode aired, Hyland took to Instagram to tell her followers that she had no idea the shocking twist was coming.

He inspired Sarah to follow her original story, as she said: I should think that I should put up a spoiler alert for Grandpa Frank to die, but they caught me off guard.

The end is nigh for Modern Family, but the cast aren't ready to say their final goodbyes. Together with Phil, Claire and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) are in charge of searching their mother's stuff in Jay's garage (Ed O'Neill), so that they can handle their own grief.

Levitan said the writers made a decision to kill off DeDe because "she's directly involved with three of our characters and she touched everybody's life in some interesting way". The emotional episode makes us think about the other ways in which the show has dealt with sadness and loss.
